Rashid Khan To Play For Adelaide Strikers
Rashid Khan will officially become the first Afghan ever to play in Australia’s Twenty20 Big Bash League, also known as the BBL. The spinning sensation has been selected to play for the Adelaide Strikers later this year. The announcement was made by the club on Thursday. An elated Khan has responded by saying that a great honour had befallen him and that the opportunity was made all the more exceptional by the fact that he would be the first Afghan player to bowl in the Big Bash League.
Coach Jason Gillepsie has described the spinning sensation’s signing as being a major leap forward for the Strikers. He went on to say that Khan was a rare find – a player who had been setting the T20 world alight with his incredible enthusiasm and drive. He described Khan as having a great array of variations – able to bowl stump-to-stump and mostly very hard to pick.
When The Numbers Speak For Themselves
Rashid Khan has been responsible for claiming a total of 63 wickets in 29 one-day internationals. Apart from the stellar performance during one-day internationals, Khan has also become the first player to manage a hat trick in the T20 Caribbean Premier League whilst playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors.
18 Year old Khan has also been one of the most successful players in this year’s Indian Premier League, having taken 17 wickets for the Sunrisers under the tutelage of Australian David Warner, as well as having become the third youngest captain to lead a T20 side when he led the Band-e-Amir Dragons in the Shpageeza Cricket League.
The Story So Far
Rashid Khan made his T20 debut back in 2015 at the tender age of 17 and quickly made his way up the ladder of fame, becoming the absolute talk of cricket-town. He has since played in a grand total of 106 T20s, including the domestic as well as the international circuit.
Earlier this year he made the cricket world sit up and pay attention when he took a hi-maiden 5 wicket haul during the second T20 stand-off against Ireland. It may very well have been exactly this that drew the attention of the Adelaide Strikers.
Khan is the second overseas player to be signed by Adelaide for the year. He joins the ranks of South African player Colin Ingram.
Khan has been described as being nothing short of a T20 revelation.
