Betting apps have grown rapidly in popularity over the past few years, to the point where it’s now preferred over desktop sites for many punters. As a result, you’ll rarely come across a betting site that doesn’t have a betting app available – and generally a good one at that. On this page, we’ll take a look at some of the best betting apps in Australia, and what you can expect to find on them.
Betting Apps Australia 2025
Free Betting Apps
There is plenty to like about Australian betting apps; the convenience, the user-friendly interfaces, the ability to access everything that a betting site has to offer from wherever you may be. But arguably the best feature of all is that you don’t have to pay a cent to get them.
All betting apps in Australia are free of charge to download, and typically available for multiple types of devices. Whether you’re after the best betting apps for Android, or the best betting apps for iOS devices, you’ll be able to find free betting apps from the Google Store, App Store or wherever it is that you download yours from.
Top 5 Betting Apps
Analysing the best betting apps is clearly a subjective practice, and the favourite for one person may not even be in the top 10 betting apps in Australia for another. But there are certain factors that make some apps stand out for most punters, and based on our research, these are the top five online betting apps that we have reviewed.
PlayUp
PlayUp does a whole lot right, be it their impressive range of markets, competitive odds or great customer support, but their app is one of the best things about this Australian bookmaker. The PlayUp website is unique but very user-friendly, and their app falls into the same category. Available as an iOS or Android betting app, this one is as responsive as any that you will find out there, looks great, and makes it easy to access PlayUp’s elite range of markets. Some users have reported problems with logging inn on the app, but this doesn’t seem to be a broadly experienced issue and is not one that I have personally come across.
Unique feature: ‘MultiEX’ tab at the bottom of the app, which allows you to quickly select multis which others have put together.
Bet365
Bet365 is one of the biggest betting sites in the world for a lot of reasons, and their betting app certainly doesn’t let them down. Interestingly, I didn’t used to be the biggest fan of it; while Bet365 is as good as any Australian bookmaker for their incredible range of markets and virtually unmatched odds, I found that the app tended to bug and crash a little too often for my taste, even though it looked great and was easy to navigate. For the past couple of years, however, those bugs have been a thing of the past. Now, the navigation and aesthetics are the stand out, and with Bet365’s selection of markets right up there with the best, this betting app is one of my first choices.
Unique feature: Access to the best range of markets and odds in the Australian betting industry
Bet Right
BetRight has been doing a lot right since launching in 2021, really separating themselves from the multitude of new betting sites which are difficult to distinguish from one another. And their betting app is one of their standout features, with a great aesthetic punctuated by a host of shortcut buttons at the bottom of the app making it really quick and easy to navigate around. It helps that they also have an excellent range of markets, particularly for a newer bookie. One previous criticism was the absence of a ‘next to go’ section for sports to quickly navigate to upcoming events, but the addition of this is indicative of BetRight’s commitment to a quality app.
Unique feature: ‘Search’ function tab at the bottom of the app, which makes it easy to find whatever it is you’re looking for.
Palmerbet
Palmerbet has been around for a long time, having launched back in 2013, but despite being one of the better betting sites in Australia, it is often overlooked in these conversations. It shouldn’t be. Palmerbet excels in many key categories that we consider when analysing a betting site, and while their actual desktop site can at times be a little bit of a letdown, the betting app makes up for it. It’s very intuitive and responsive, allows you to access their quality range of betting bonuses, and has a couple of great features – such as allowing you to add your favourite sports to the sports tab to more quickly access them.
Unique feature: Ability to add a shortcut to your favourite sports.
Unibet
If your priority in a betting site is a wide range of markets and great odds, then Unibet is likely right at the top of your list. Similar to Palmerbet, one of the downsides of Unibet is their website – it looks good and has a unique layout, but can be a little clunky to use at times. Fortunately, those issues don’t extend to their app. If you use Unibet at all, their betting app will likely be your preference because while their desktop site is a little slow, the app is as quick and easy as any to use. Occasionally the app does require you to log in again if you exit it for just a few minutes, but other than that it’s a really high-quality betting app.
Unique feature: Access to some of the best Cash Out payments in the industry.
Sports Betting Apps
The most popular types of betting are sports and races, but there are also other types of Australia mobile betting available on your mobile such as current events, entertainment, financial betting and even politics. Most mobile betting sites now offer betting for mobile phones, because of their popularity. Some online Mobile betting Australia sites are better than others, so be sure to read the reviews and ratings right here.
NRL Betting Apps
NRL competes with the AFL as the most popular footy code in the country, occupying the hearts and souls of sports fans in the north-eastern states throughout the winter months. Every betting app has some NRL betting markets, but the best among them have hundreds and hundreds of markets for every game, and great odds to boot. BetFocus is one of the standouts, with their origins in the north-east part of the country translating to a great NRL offering.
A-League Betting Apps
The A-League does not have the popularity of the above couple of leagues, but there are still more than enough punters interested in it to justify a good range of betting markets. But with it being a little more niche than leagues like the AFL and NRL, to get the full spectrum of options you really need a betting app that specialises in providing a broad range of markets. Bet365 is always in the conversation for that mantle, making them one of the best A-League betting apps.
NBA Betting Apps
The NBA’s enormous surge in popularity in Australia in recent years has translated to the betting world, with the biggest basketball league in the world becoming one of the most heavily advertised sports by betting companies. The fact that there are multiple games virtually every day for the vast majority of the years means that there is no shortage of opportunity for betting on the NBA, with same game multis and player props a particularly popular component of betting on this league. There are heaps of great sports betting apps for the NBA, but BetRight has to be one of the best of them courtesy of its huge range of markets and great odds.
Soccer Betting Apps
We’ve already touched on the A-League, but now let’s talk soccer more generally. With leagues all around the world, many sports betting apps offer a seemingly limitless number of different soccer leagues to bet on. Clearly the number of markets for each of these varies, with the Premier League generally having the most. PlayUp is one of the best soccer betting apps (or football betting apps, for those of you who prefer that terminology), offering markets on everything from Premier League and La Liga through to the Egypt Premier League and Australia NPL Queensland.
Horse Racing Betting Apps
Horse racing betting can at times be a fast-paced process, particularly if you’re betting across multiple meets at the same time. This is where horse racing betting apps can come in real handy, and having everything available at your fingertips on your mobile phone makes it easier than ever to bet on racing.
Australian betting apps typically have really well-developed racing platforms, with most of them boasting a tab at the bottom which allows you to immediately click through to every race on that day. You’ll also generally be able to find all the information about the race as well as individual runners that you would on the desktop site, all neatly packaged within these nifty little programs.
And while it’s easy to bet on racing with most betting apps, there are some that really set themselves apart. Typically this is because of factors beyond the app itself, great fixed racing odds being the main one of these. Bet365 is regularly leading the way in this regard, while ColossalBet is a lesser known site with a new betting app that offers really good racing odds.
So whether you’re looking for somewhere to engage in some Melbourne Cup betting, international racing is more your thing, or you simply want somewhere to punt on a Wednesday arvo, there are plenty of options for you. Horse racing is a staple of the betting industry, so it’s no surprise that there are so many great betting apps for racing.
Betting Apps Promotions
Promotions are part and parcel of every betting site, and while it’s no longer legal to explicitly entice new customers using them, they still remain a key selling point for all bookmakers. Recently implemented regulations have made it illegal for bookies to advertise these promos, or to offer sign-up bonuses, but once you have an account with a betting site you’ll be able to check out all the promotions that they have to offer.
In general, all of these bonuses will be available on the betting app as well as the desktop site – and often there will be even more for you to sink your teeth into on the app. While it’s not allowed for bookies to entice new customers to sign up by using promotions, there is nothing to stop them using them to get existing customers to download the app.
As a result, sometimes you will find that there are certain betting app promotions available only through the app, and not through the desktop site. This is not always the case, but there are plenty of sites who do it, and for whom the betting app is the best place to find the widest range of promos and bonuses.
Betting Apps vs Desktop Sites: Which is Better?
In the past, desktop sites were your only choice when it came to online betting. You’d have to open up the laptop and choose from what was a comparatively small selection of different Australian betting sites.
Then betting apps came along, enabling punters to place bet without having to be seated at their computer. And with the number of betting sites growing exponentially in ensuing years, we’ve gone from having a small selection of online betting sites, to a massive range of bookies each with a desktop site and mobile app to choose from. So why would you choose a betting app over a desktop site?
The first and most obvious answer is, of course, convenience. Betting apps don’t require you to be at home or somewhere with your computer – all you need is your phone, and you’re able to immediately access everything that your betting site has to offer.
In the past, betting apps might have been more convenient but a little less easy to use than desktop sites, but for most bookmakers those days are a relic of a bygone era. Australian betting apps have become so well-developed that in many cases, they are easier to use than a desktop site and many punters, myself included, will often choose to use them even if both laptop and phone are nearby.
Of course, this isn’t supposed to be a pile-on about desktop sites. While I do generally prefer to use betting apps, there are still some advantages to having everything available on your computer. For example, if I’m doing research about a game I fancy having a flutter on, it’s a lot easier to do it all on the laptop, opening up tabs where I can look up statistics while keeping a betting site open simultaneously. Obviously this can be done on a mobile too, but it is a little time-consuming.
There are pros and cons to using both mobile betting apps and desktop sites, and which is better depends on individual preferences. But while there’s no clear answer about which is better, one thing is clear; it sure is nice to have both options!
