Despite this, it has already become one of the biggest Group One races thanks to the massive amount of prize money and the unique way the field is formed. The race is contested over a distance of 1,600m and is run under weight-for-age (WFA) conditions.

The All-Star Mile has only been around since 2019 and was introduced by Racing Victoria to drum up more interest in Melbourne’s Autumn Racing Carnival, as a lot of the attention at this time of the year is on Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival. This newly introduced race has already undergone several key changes in its short history.

The win and you’re in races include: Elm Stakes, CF Orr Stakes, Futurity Stakes, Australian Guineas and Blamey Stakes. There has also been a reduction in prize money to the All-Star Mile recently, and it is now worth $2 million, which still makes it one of the richest races on the Australian calendar. In 2024, the All-Star Mile was awarded Group One status. 

There is also an All-Star Mile competition, where you can go into the running to become an "ambassador" of one of the runners in the upcoming race, and if your horse wins, you get $100,000. To be in the running, you must bet at the track on Black Caviar Lightning Day, Australian Guineas Day or All-Star Mile Day.

Mr Brightside, who was the equal $2.70 favourite, finished in second place. A $26 roughie, Light Infantry Man, finished in third place, 1.31L off the leader, Tom Kitten. However, as there were only seven runners in the race, third-place dividends weren’t paid out for place bets.
