Then, in 2022, there were a few changes, and the Champions Mile was moved to the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The day is now known as Champions Day, with the Champions Sprint and Champions Stakes also taking place on the same day.

On top of this, the conditions of the Champions Mile changed (it is now a weight-for-age event), and the prize money for the race was increased to $3 million. Speaking of changes, there have been multiple changes to the name of this race. Some of the previous names of this race include: the Coburg Stakes, the George Adams Handicap and the Kennedy Mile.
