Key Details About the Doncaster Mile

The Doncaster Mile takes place on what is known as Day One of The Championships, and there are three other Group One races on the same day. These races include: the Sires Produce Stakes, Australian Derby and TJ Smith Stakes.

The race is known as one of the best mile races in the country, and we almost always see a capacity field of 20 runners for the Doncaster Mile each year. The first edition of the Doncaster Mile was all the way back in 1866, when it was won by Dundee.

As the Doncaster Mile is raced under handicap conditions, it gives all runners a fair chance of winning, as long as they are good enough to make it into the final field. This means we can sometimes see some big longshots winning the Doncaster Mile.

The winner of the Doncaster Mile is exempt from the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, which is run on Day Two of The Championships (one week after the Doncaster Mile). The Queen Elizabeth Stakes is run under weight-for-age conditions and is worth $5 million in prize money.

  • Try Multiple Betting Sites - Different betting sites offer different features and products, so it’s a good idea to try multiple options. Key aspects like odds and betting sites bonuses can be different across varying bookies, so keep an eye out for that.
  • View the Form Guide - After the field has been confirmed, you should check out the form guide as this provides vital pieces of information like the starting barriers for each runner, recent results, career records and more.
  • Find Value Odds - The favourite is usually the favourite for good reason, but this doesn’t mean you can’t find a runner that presents good value. This is why looking into the form guide and any key form indicators can help, as you could find a runner that looks overs.

Best Odds for the Doncaster Mile

While on the surface, it can seem like a lot of work to find the best odds, and not necessarily for the greatest reward either. But things have changed in the past few years, making it a lot easier to find and lock in the best odds going around for the Doncaster Mile.

The introduction of odds comparison tools can really help to speed up the process. However, it’s important to be aware of the limitations. Firstly, the tool might not display the odds across every bookie you like. Also, they usually only display fixed win and place odds.

An odds comparison tool is a great place to start, and then you just have to manually check a handful of other bookies if you desire. If you prefer to bet on roughies or exotic markets, where the odds are usually much higher, you usually see a bigger discrepancy in the odds across bookies.

Another tactic that can help speed the process up is to start by checking bookies that have a reputation for offering some of the best horse racing odds going around. Bookies like Dabble, Unibet and BoomBet almost always offer some of the best, so you can’t really go wrong with them.

Latest Doncaster Mile Results

It was a race for the roughies in the 2025 Doncaster Mile as three double-digit runners filled the trifecta. Coming in first place was the Bjorn Baker-trained Stefi Magnetica, who jumped from barrier five. The mare was paying $18 to get the win in the Doncaster Mile.

Stefi Magnetica was followed closely by Royal Patronage, who jumped wide (from barrier 16), and was just 0.14L behind the leader. Filling in the final minor placing was Encap, who was going around with odds of $51 to win the Doncaster Mile (and $11 to place).
