Key Details About the Doomben 10,000

The Doomben 10,000 is one of the most well-known races on the Australian calendar and takes place each year during Brisbane’s Winter Racing Carnival. The race was first run back in 1933, when racehorse Wallun took out the event. Since then, we have seen many changes to the event.

The race was originally contested under handicap conditions. However, this changed in 1997, when the race began being run under WFA conditions, which has continued to this day. In 2017, there was a revamp in the Queensland Carnival, which resulted in the Doomben 10,000 becoming the first Queensland Group One race of the season.

As the richest race held at Doomben Racecourse, it is undoubtedly the main attraction of the Winter Racing Carnival. Throughout the history of this race, there have been multiple changes to the name. Some of the different names of this race include: Doomben Newmarket Handicap, Rothmans 100,000 and Castlemaine 10,000.

In 2022, the Doomben 10,000 was run at Eagle Farm Racecourse due to poor weather at Doomben Racecourse. Along with changes to the name, we have also seen multiple changes to the distance of the Doomben 10,000.

The history of distance changes can be found here:

  • 1933 - 1941: 1,200 metres
  • 1942 - 1945: 1,400m (at Albion Park)
  • 1942 -1972: 1,400m
  • 1973 - 2016: 1,350m
  • 2017 - now: 1,200m

Best Odds for the Doomben 10,000

If you’re on a quest to find the best odds for the Doomben 10,000, you’ll be pleased to know that it isn’t a time-consuming process. When you use the right tools and have enough experience, the entire process should only take a couple of minutes. So, make sure you leave yourself some spare minutes before the Doomben 10,000 each year.

It’s no secret that different betting sites may offer different odds for the same runner/ market. So, it’s a good idea to start shopping around to see where you can pick up the most value. While you may think a small difference in the odds isn’t going to have that much of an impact on your bottom line, it can add up pretty quickly.

This is especially the case if you’re a regular bettor or you like to bet on roughies/ markets with higher odds. When it comes to roughies and markets with higher odds (like exotics, for example), you’ll usually find a greater difference between the lowest and highest odds.

To easily find which bookie is offering the best odds, we recommend using an odds comparison tool. This tool will display all the fixed win/ place odds in one place. While they may not include all the bookies you like, they will likely include at least some, which can help shorten the process for you.
