Key Details About the Spring Champion Stakes

The Spring Champion Stakes is a major Group One race that takes place during Sydney’s Spring Racing Carnival. It is a race for 3YOs and the $2 million in prize money always brings out some of the best racehorses in the country (and even the world).

The race was first contested back in 1971 and was won by Gay Icarus. In 1979, when the adoption of the Group system was introduced, the Spring Champion Stakes was awarded Group One status, before that, it was known as a Principal race.

The staying event is the sole race for 3YOs in Sydney, so this is another reason we see the best youngsters come out to strut their stuff and get their hands on some serious prize money. The Spring Champion Stakes is also run on the same day as the Cox Plate, which takes place in Melbourne.

The race has almost always taken place at Randwick Racecourse, except for one year in 1983, when the race took place at Warwick Farm Racecourse and was run over a distance of 2,100 metres. In 2001, the race was contested at the Randwick-Kensington track and run over 1,800 metres.

Spring Champion Stakes Tips & Best Bets

If you’re looking for Spring Champion Stakes tips then you have come to the right place. The team at Australianbettingsites.net.au provide tips for the big race and so much more. We offer daily horse racing tips, so there’s always something happening here.

Along with tips for the Spring Champion Stakes, we offer The Everest tips, Caulfield Cup tips and more. When providing our tips, we take our time to go through every runner in the field and analyse their chances of success. We always base our decisions on data and stats that we find about each runner.

For the Spring Champion Stakes, we have a few tips that you should follow when placing your bets:

  • Past Performances - One of the most important aspects to consider when betting on the Spring Champion Stakes is the past performances of each runner. Also, consider if they have had success at the same track and across the same distance of the race in the past as well.
  • Try New Bookies - You may have your heart set on your existing bookie, but you are potentially missing out on different betting sites bonuses, better odds and more by not trying out new betting sites. We have a list of recommended bookies in Australia if you are looking for somewhere to start.
  • Develop a Plan - Before you start betting for the day, it is a good idea to develop a plan (and stick with it). Things sometimes don’t always go the way you would have hoped in terms of results, so you must have a clear plan and follow it throughout the day of betting.
  • Understand the Odds - For every runner in the market, there will be different odds. The shorter the odds, the greater the chance that runner will win the race (according to the bookies). While a runner may not be the favourite, you shouldn’t discount them as the favourite doesn’t win all the time.

Best Odds for the Spring Champion Stakes

Locking in the best odds for the Spring Champion Stakes is actually pretty easy these days. Odds comparison tools can make the process a simple one, but they do have their limitations, so manual work is usually required.

Sometimes different betting sites will offer different odds for the same runner and/ or market. So, if you have the time, you can shop around and find the best odds for what you want to bet on. While you may not think it will make a big difference, it really does all add up.

If you like to bet on roughies or markets with higher odds, the discrepancy between bookies can be larger and therefore it’s more beneficial for you to check to see odds across multiple sites. You can also stick with bookies that have a reputation for offering competitive odds.

Having accounts with multiple different bookies can make the process of finding the best odds for the Spring Champion Stakes easier. You don’t have to go through the sign-up process at the last minute to lock in value odds and get a higher potential payout if your bet gets up.
