Key Details About The Golden Eagle

The Golden Eagle doesn’t have as long of a history as some of the other Group One races on the calendar, after being introduced in 2019 as Racing NSW’s efforts to increase awareness of Sydney’s Spring Racing Carnival.

You might notice there are a few “Golden” races on the calendar in Sydney, and The Golden Eagle is the latest edition. Some of the other “Golden” races include: the Golden Slipper (for 2YOs) and the Golden Rose Stakes (for 3YOs).

If a runner can win all three of the “Golden” races, an additional $5 million in prize money is awarded. One of the ideas behind The Golden Eagle is to get trainers (and connections of racehorses) to continue to run their horses into their fourth year, instead of sending them to the breeding barn.

The Golden Eagle first kicked off in 2019, when the race was worth $8 million (it is worth $10 million now) and was won by Kolding. The race is on the same day as the Victoria Derby and takes place on the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup. Winners of the Golden Rose Stakes, Randwick Guineas and Arrowfield Sprint are exempt from the ballot for The Golden Eagle.

The Golden Eagle Tips & Best Bets

The Australianbettingsites.net.au team will provide The Golden Eagle tips for the race each year. Our horse racing tips for this major event will be available a couple of days out from the race. On top of our tips for major races, we even provide daily tips and best bets, so there is always something happening.

When it comes to our The Golden Eagle tips (and tips for other races, like Cox Plate tips, Queen Elizabeth Stakes tips and Doncaster Mile tips), we take the time to review each and every runner in the race. After looking into the field and key form indicators, we make a decision on what is the best bet for the race.

We want to ensure you have the most enjoyable experience possible when betting on The Golden Eagle, so make sure you follow our tips and tricks:

  • Try Different Betting Sites - You might feel comfortable sticking with your tried and true betting sites, but there are so many new betting sites popping up all the time, and you could be missing out on an awesome new feature that you can’t get anywhere else.
  • Look at Recent Results - You shouldn’t just look at the recent results of the runner, but also the results of the trainer and jockey as well. Also, check out if the jockey and runner have had success previously, or even the jockey and trainer.
  • Understand the Odds - While the favourite is probably the favourite for a reason, you shouldn’t just blindly back the favourite without checking out other options. Doing a little form work can help point you in the direction of the next potential winner without being blinded by the odds.
  • Bet Within Your Means - Sometimes, things can get away from you quite quickly when gambling. You should have a pre-determined limit before you start betting for the day and stick with it. Only bet with money you can afford to lose.

Best Odds for The Golden Eagle

Something that pretty much every bettor wants to do - find the best odds for The Golden Eagle. Finding the best odds can seem like a time-consuming process, but if you know what you are doing, it doesn’t really take that long, and you could end up finding a lot more value.

We find that some of the time, different bookies will offer different odds for the same runner, so it is certainly worth shopping around. This is especially the case if you’re thinking about betting on a roughie, as the difference in odds between bookies can sometimes be a lot larger.

You can start by using an odds comparison tool to help you find the best odds. However, the tool you are using might not include the odds from all the bookies you like. Also, most of the time, they only provide a comparison of odds for win and place markets.

This means if you want to bet on a different market, an odds comparison tool won’t really help you. Manually checking all your favourite bookies won’t take that long though. So, if you have about 10 minutes to spare before The Golden Eagle starts, check out as many bookies as you like to see where the best odds are.

Latest The Golden Eagle Results

The heavy $1.70 favourite, Autumn Glow, got the chocolates in the $10 million race. Autumn Glow, who won the Epsom Handicap, jumped from barrier eight and came from mid-field to win The Golden Eagle by 1.25L. Sepals, who was paying $21 to claim the win, ended up finishing in second place, after jumping from barrier six.

Filling in the final minor placing was Evaporate, ridden by Nash Rawiller. The gelding jumped from barrier seven and ended up finishing 1.64L off Autumn Glow. Linebacker, who was on the second line of betting, finished down in seventh. In 2025, the Golden Eagle was run in a time of 1:29.72, and a total of 30.88L split the first and last runners in the field.
