AFL Coleman Medal Winner 2025

The Coleman Medal, awarded to the player who kicks the most goals in the AFL home and away season each year, has long been the domain of the big men; in fact, you’d have to go back to last century to find a player under 190cm who won it. This season looks likely to be no different, with names like Jeremy Cameron, Jesse Hogan and Ben King all prominent in the Coleman Medal betting entering the second half of the season. Cameron is clearly the man to beat, but the Coleman Medal betting odds suggest as much too and there might be value to be found a little further down the board. Below, we take a look at all of the players still in the mix.

Latest Coleman Medal Odds

Below is a list of the top ten favourites in the Coleman Medal betting market at the time of writing at an established Aussie betting site, a big international bookie and one of many new betting sites that has popped up in recent years. As you can see, there is quite a lot of variation across different bookmakers, which means there could be value to be found if you do your shopping.

Who are the Favourites?

Jeremy Cameron

Jeremy Cameron’s potential to kick bulk goals is always there, but his ability to play up the field means he is often employed in a role which isn’t conducive to winning Coleman Medals. But with Tom Hawkins retiring at the end of last year, the Cats superstar is spending more time closer to goal and looks well on track to win his second Coleman Medal as a result. At least four goals in all but one game between Rounds 11 and 16 took him to 48 for the season, eight clear of his nearest competitor. He’s the man to beat, his odds aren’t particularly enticing.

Jesse Hogan

Last year’s winner missed the first three games of the season, but flew back into favouritism in the AFL Coleman Medal betting markets with a casual 13 goals in his first two games. Unsurprisingly he hasn’t been able to maintain that pace, but he’s still right in the mix. Hogan has had no issues booting big bags this season; he kicked 9 in Round 4, 7 in Round 10 and 6 in Round 15. In between though, he’s been a little inconsistent, with numerous single-goal games and a lot with just two. But his penchant for big games means that Hogan is capable of quickly closing the gap on Cameron, and given we know he will always play close to goal, he looks like really good value with a couple of months still to go in the season.

Ben King

Ben King is on track for the best season of his career from a goalkicking perspective, though he has slowed up a little after a red-hot start. He kicked 23 in his first six games, but managed just 15 in his next eight to drop a fair way off the pace. King is relatively consistent – he’s kicked a goal every game at the time of writing – but he doesn’t yet have the same capacity as Cameron and Hogan to kick big bags regularly – in that aforementioned eight-game span he didn’t kick more than three in a game. There is a lot of variance in his odds as you can see in the table above, but even at $8 I don’t think he looks like great value.

Other Coleman Medal Contenders

Mitch Georgiades

Mitch Georgiades has shown plenty of promise throughout his career so far, and this season he has taken a big step forward. The 23-year-old had a really consistent start to the season, kicking multiple goals in six consecutive games after going goalless in his first, and a bag of 7 in Round 15 and then 5 a fortnight later have put him right in the mix. Interestingly, at the time of writing he is level with King on goals and has a lot more points, too, so he’s been getting more opportunity. Combine that with the fact that he’s in better form, and you could probably switch the odds of the two around. Georgiades is rightly a long shot, but he’s value at $21.

James Elliot

How good is it to see Jamie Elliott playing such quality footy? The talented small forward has been ravaged by injury throughout his career, but at the ripe old age of 32 he’s in the midst of some of the best form of his life. Bags of 5, 6, 5 and 5 within a six-week span have put him on track for easily the highest goalscoring season of his career, and right on the heels of everyone except Cameron in this race. Small forwards are invariably a little inconsistent, though Elliott’s ability to be a marking target negates this issue for him to an extent and has seen him consistently kick multiple goals this season. It’s hard to see him winning this award, but he’s having a great year nonetheless.

Jack Gunston

Speaking of old-timers, what on earth is Jack Gunston doing in this conversation? The 33-year-old is having a late-career resurgence in his second stint with the Hawks, with a bag of 7 against the Roos in Round 17 taking him to 35 on the season in just 12 games. That still had him 13 back from Cameron, but in terms of goals per game he’s right up there. Gunston is a consistent target for a good team and should keep kicking multiple goals each game, though even at long odds it is hard to see him bridging the gap on the leaders.

Team-by-Team Outlook: Leading Goalkickers

Adelaide CrowsAdelaide Crows

The Crows three-big-man setup means their forwards have to share the spoils, though there are plenty of goals to go around in Adelaide. Riley Thilthorpe is leading the way, but Darcy Fogarty is not far behind and could easily end up their leading goalkicker.

AFL Brisbane LionsBrisbane Lions

Most would have expected Eric Hipwood and Charlie Cameron to be kicking bags this season in Joe Daniher’s absence, but they’ve both struggled. Instead, it’s been young star Logan Morris doing the heavy lifting, booting 30 goals through his first 14 games.

AFL Carlton BluesCarlton Blues

The Blues have had a stranglehold on the Coleman Medal in recent years, with Charlie Curnow winning two and Harry McKay one between 2021 and 2023. This year, however, McKay has barely played and hasn’t been great when he has, while Curnow has also been a shadow of his former self. Curnow is still easily their leading goalkicker, but he’s a long way back in the Coleman Medal race.

AFL Collingwood MagpiesCollingwood Magpies

Jamie Elliott has been the man for the Pies this season, booting 37 from his first 15 games. Each of Brody Mihocek, Tim Membrey and Bobby Hill are also having solid seasons in a well-balanced team, but Elliott is a long way out in front on their goalkicking leaderboard.

AFL Essendon BombersEssendon Bombers

The Bombers’ forwardline has a lot of potential, but no one has set the world on fire from a goalkicking perspective up there. Peter Wright and Nate Caddy will battle it out for their most goals, though neither will finish on a super high number.

AFL Fremantle DockersFremantle Dockers

The big Kahuna Josh Treacy has continued his ascendency into the upper realms of forwards in the comp, though while he’s easily leading the way for the Dockers his impact extends well beyond just goalkicking. Shai Bolton has also been great in his first season, though he doesn’t usually kick more than 2 or 3 and won’t likely catch Treacy.

AFL Geelong CatsGeelong Cats

It’s Cameron and then daylight for the Cats. Ollie Dempsey has been a phenomenally consistent goalkicker from the wing while Patrick Dangerfield has been brilliant as a full-time forward, but Jezza will win their goalkicking in a canter.

AFL Gold Coast SunsGold Coast Suns

Ben King is a fair way out in front for the Suns, though Ben Long has been one of the most improved players in the comp and is averaging over two goals per game. Jed Walter is one to watch for the future, but for the time being the forward set-up of the Suns means King will be their leading goalkicker comfortably.

AFL Sydney GiantsGreater Western Sydney Giants

The Giants have a very talented forwardline; Aaron Cadman is beginning to show his talent while Toby Greene, even in a down year, is looking at close to 40 goals. But Hogan is way out in front and should end up with close to 70 once again.

AFL Hawtorn HawksHawthorn Hawks

Gunston is the surprise leader of the Hawks’ goalkicking at the time of writing, but Mabior Chol is not far behind and could easily surpass him. Nick Watson and Jack Ginnivan have been great, but the Hawks’ leading goalkicker will be either Gunston or Chol.

AFL Melbourne DemonsMelbourne Demons

The Dees’ forward line is their Achilles heel, and it shows in a grim leading goalkicker race. Bayley Fritsch has been really disappointing but still led with 18 from 14 games, while Jake Melksham is next and Christian Petracca – a midfielder – is third.

AFL North Melbourne KangaroosNorth Melbourne Kangaroos

Nick Larkey is, as usual, leading the way for the Kangaroos, though Cameron Zurhaar and the impressive Paul Curtis aren’t far behind. Larkey is the primary key target and should end the year on top, though with Jack Darling now down there too, the load is being spread a little more.

AFL Port Adelaide PowerPort Adelaide Power

No one is getting near Georgiades for the Power. A few smalls, namely Willie Rioli, Sam Powell-Pepper and Darcy Byrne-Jones, have been consistent goalkickers, but Georgiades has nearly double anyone else at the club.

AFL Richmond TigersRichmond Tigers

It’s not easy being a forward for the Tigers. Tom Lynch should have been their runaway leading goalkicker, but he looks over the hill and is now in the midst of a five-game suspension. Seth Campbell was already just ahead of him anyway, but should extend that lead significantly in the coming weeks.

AFL St. Kilda SaintsSt. Kilda Saints

Jack Higgins has had a great season for the Saints, booting 31 goals through his first 15 games. That had him 12 ahead of anyone else, and it’s hard to see the likes of Cooper Sharman, Mitch Owens or Mason Wood catching him.

AFL Sydney SwansSydney Swans

Sydney’s forward line has not been particularly potent this season. Isaac Heeney is leading the way at the time of writing with 22 from 15 games, but there are plenty not far behind. Joel Amartey, with just 11 after Round 17, could make a charge for their goalkicking award if he gets a good run with injury in the back half of the season.

AFL West Coast EaglesWest Coast Eagles

It won’t take many goals to win West Coast’s goalkicking award. Six weeks after suffering a season-ending injury, Jake Waterman was still ahead, with Jamie Cripps, Liam Ryan and Jack Williams not far behind. Williams is starting to look like a solid key target and in the absence of Oscar Allen, might end up leading their goalkicking.

AFL Western BulldogsWestern Bulldogs

Sam Darcy is the Dogs best forward by a mile, but he, Aaron Naughton and Rhylee West are currently engaged in a tight battle. But don’t expect that to remain the case. Darcy missed a bunch of games and now that he’s back, should steam clear on the Bulldogs’ goalkicking tally.

Predictions: Who Will Win the Coleman Medal?

Clearly, this is Jeremy Cameron’s race to lose, and the odds suggest as much. But while he’s been the dominant forward in the competition so far, it’s hard to justify betting on him at well under $2. A couple of players behind him are more than capable of putting together a big last couple of months, and at odds Jesse Hogan looks like the best value to do just that.

The reigning Coleman Medallist has played three less games than the man leading him in the race, and if he maintains a clean bill of health he should kick plenty of goals over the next couple of months. If you’re looking for a real dark horse, Mitch Georgiades could easily be a lot shorter than he is and given his electric form of late, those odds may not hang around for long. Of the favourites, however, Hogan presents as the best value.

Coleman Medal Betting Tips

Anyone who tells you they’ve got the answer to betting on the Coleman Medal, or betting in general, is lying. These tips, however, can certainly help, and provide a framework to use when scouring the Coleman Medal betting odds.

  • Size matters: There are plenty of capable small forwards in the league, with Jamie Elliott standing out in particular this season, but there is a reason that every Coleman Medallist this century has been a key forward.
  • Factor in team structure: This is particularly important prior to the season, but in-season team changes can also impact a player’s capacity to kick goals. Take Nick Larkey this year, for example – the Roos’ only real key target in recent years, with Jack Darling joining the fray in the off-season the load was always going to be spread around a little more.
  • Can they kick bags? Some guys who consistently kick 2 or 3 goals a game will often be hanging around the top five in the Coleman Medal race. But while those players are a safe bet to kick 40 or 50, that’s never going to be enough. Winners of this award typically have a handful of big hauls throughout the season.
