Collingwood Magpies Betting Tips, Odds & Best Bets

There are plenty of ‘big’ clubs in the AFL, but by many metrics, the Collingwood Magpies lead the pack. A founding member of the then VFL, now AFL, in its inaugural season way back in 1897, they’ve since won a record-equalling 16 Premierships, most recently in 2023. They regularly lead the league’s membership tally, in 2024 boasting more than 110,000 of them, and can pack out their home MCG like arguably no other team in the league. They’ve been a reasonably consistent threat at the business end of the season for many years now, and are set to be once again in 2025.

Collingwood Betting Odds

The Magpies are in the midst of another Premiership tilt this year, with the Collingwood odds for the flag the shortest in the league for most of the season.

History of the Collingwood Magpies

The Magpies were initially formed in 1892, only five years before the formation of the breakaway VFL which has become today’s AFL, but by 1897 they were one of its eight founding members and five years later they had their first Premiership. They were incredibly successful during the early parts of the 20th century, racing to 11 flags by 1936, and while they’ve suffered some dry spells since in an increasingly competitive league, they’ve been one of the best-performed teams over the past few years. They famously drew the 2010 Grand Final with St. Kilda before winning the replay the next week, and after heartbreak in the 2018 edition against the Eagles, they knocked off the Lions in one of the best Grannies in recent memory five years later.

FAQs About the Collingwood Magpies

Below are some frequently asked questions about the Collingwood Magpies.

The Magpies play their home games at the MCG.

The Magpies have a star-studded line-up, with Nick Daicos leading the way. His brother Josh is also among their best, the enigmatic Josh de Goey is as good as anyone when fit and healthy, Darcy Cameron’s importance to them is underrated while the ageless Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom continue to defy Father Time.

Given the number of votes he has picked up already in his short but brilliant career, it will be hard for anyone to poll better than Nick Daicos this year, and the Collingwood odds for the Brownlow will likely see him installed as a very short-priced favourite with Aussie betting sites.

The Magpies last won the Premiership in 2023, when they beat the Lions by four points.

Gordon Coventry has the second most goals in history and leads the way for Collingwood with 1299.

There are plenty. Coventry is certainly up there, along with names like Bob Rose, Peter Daicos, Len Thompson and more recently, Nathan Buckley and Scott Pendlebury.
