The Hawks have not historically been one of the biggest clubs in the league, but with so much success over the past 50 years and a period of complete dominance last decade, they’ve well and truly joined that category. Despite not winning a flag until 1961, the Hawks now sit just a couple of Premierships behind the most successful teams in VFL/AFL history. And after a few years of rebuilding in recent times, they’re working their way back into the Premiership mix.

History of the Hawthorn Hawks
The Hawks were founded soon after the beginning of the then-VFL, but it wasn’t until 1925 that they joined the league. They were horrendously unsuccessful for a good 30 years thereafter, incredibly failing to make the finals until 1957, before winning their inaugural flag four years later. They quickly returned to the bottom of the ladder after that, but when they broke through for their second flag in 1971 it marked the beginning of an amazing turnaround. They ultimately went on to win eight Premierships between then and 1991, and while they struggled for over a decade thereafter, they returned to their glory days with three consecutive flags in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
