Sydney Swans Betting Tips, Odds & Best Bets

The Swans have long been the AFL’s best hope of breaking into the rugby-dominated Sydney market, and since moving north from South Melbourne in 1982 have become one of the biggest non-Victorian teams in the league. It certainly helps that they have been one of the most consistently competitive teams in the league for two decades now. The Swans are renowned as one of the most professional organisations in the AFL, and their ability to avoid the stints at the bottom of the ladder that virtually every other team in the league endures is testament to that.

Sydney Swans Betting

History of the Sydney Swans

The Sydney Swans, as they are currently known, have only been around since 1982, but the club itself was first founded more than a century before that. South Melbourne was one of the founding members of the VFL when it began in 1897, and while they had reasonable success in the first half of the century with three Premierships, that dried up. Between 1945 and 1981 they made the finals just twice and, dealing with massive debts, became the first VFL team to leave Victoria and officially make it a national league. Though it wasn’t all smooth sailing following the move, the Sydney Swans have turned things around to become a really strong club, and have added two more Premiership trophies to their cabinet this century.

How to Watch the Sydney Swans

The Swans are regularly on free-to-air in Sydney, Channel 7 airing plenty of their games. You’ll still see them on 7 in other states too, albeit less often, while Foxtel and Kayo broadcast all of them. If you’re overseas, WatchAFL is where you’ll have to watch.
