Rugby league might not be the ‘footy’ of choice in Melbourne, but the Storm could hardly do any more to generate interest in the sporting capital of the world. In a league with a reasonably high level of equality, they have completely bucked the trend by finishing in the top 6 every year since 2002 (the exception being when they were stripped of points for salary cap breaches). Since 2015 they’ve finished top 4 every year except 2022, when they finished 5th, and with four Premierships in their near-30-year history to go with a couple more that were stripped of them, it’s safe to say they’ve made the most of their continued presence towards the top of the ladder.

History of the Melbourne Storm
The Storm were founded in 1997 and joined the NRL as it’s known today in its first year. And they didn’t take long to make their mark. In 1999, just their second season in the league, the Storm won the flag, and would go on to repeat the dose in 2007, 2009, 2012, 2017 and 2020. Unfortunately, they were infamously stripped of the first two of those titled after admitting to salary cap breaches. Still, the continued dominance of this team over such a long period is undeniable, and it’s virtually a fait accompli that Melbourne Storm tips entering each season will have them as an expected member of the top 4. This year is no different; the Storm have been favourites virtually since the outset, as they hunt a 5th (or 7th, depending who you ask) Premiership.
How to Watch the Melbourne Storm
Channel 9 will broadcast Storm games on Thursday nights, Sunday afternoons or when they’re the second Friday night game. FOX League broadcasts each and every one of their games live all season long, while so too does WatchNRL for those overseas.
