NRL 2025 - Round 19

NRL 2025 Round 19

The State of Origin decider will understandably take centre stage in the rugby league this week, but after Wednesday’s game between the Maroons and the Blues, we’ve got a pivotal round of NRL ahead of us. After a thrilling Round 18, which saw four of the five games decided by a single score, a seven-game weekend kicks off when the Sharks host the Dolphins on Friday night – two teams locked firmly in the league’s mid-table logjam. Later in the round, a host of top-eight teams get the chance to solidify their spots in the upper echelons of the ladder with games against teams outside in the bottom seven, but an upset or two will see things tighten up even further. Below, take a look at the previews and NRL tips from Australianbettingsites’ resident league expert for all five games below.

Match Analysis

The Sharks didn’t exactly earn their week off, going down 30-6 in their last game before the break, but despite some indifferent form of late they remain right on the edge of the eight, only behind the Dolphins up in 7th on points difference. And while they have a great opportunity this weekend given they face those Dolphins, unfortunately their opposition just happens to be in some of the best form of any side in the league.

The league’s newest team went on a ridiculous run prior to last weekend’s bye, winning four of five games and putting up at least 44 points in each of those wins. They have been absolutely compelling to watch, and with every passing week they do it again, this sudden offensive onslaught is looking more and more like something other than just a nice patch of form.

Granted it’s in Cronulla and we’re all used to the Sharks being a tier above the Dolphins, but of late that just hasn’t been the case. Hamiso Tubuai-Fidow will be up against the clock to return for the Dolphins after State of Origin, but he should be named. These odds look pretty skewed given these teams recent form, and some of the best NRL tips of the week come from this game; most notably a Dolphins upset win.

Expert Tip

Dolphins to win @ $2.25 with PlayUp

The Dolphins have been in electric form of late and look like a great value underdog.

Newcastle Knights vs Melbourne Storm – Prediction & Best Bet

playup$4.10 $1.24
bet365$4.00$1.25
elitebet$4.00$1.25

Match Analysis

The worst-case scenario has officially happened for the Knights, with Kalyn Ponga most likely ruled out for the season. With Fletcher Sharpe also out, their offence is suddenly looking a lot less intimidating, and a clash with the best team in the league could hardly have come at a worse time.

The Storm weren’t exactly dominant last weekend, but they did enough to beat the Cowboys and have now won five games in a row. Of course, they will have a host of players who played in State of Origin on Wednesday and not all of them will necessarily return, but the majority should to make this a relatively lopsided affair.

The Storm’s last loss came back in May and their winning run has seen them move inside the top two, and with a potential path to the Grand Final without having to leave Melbourne on the line, they will be desperate to stay there. A clash against a Knights team reeling from injuries to significant players is a good place to start, so expect them to put the foot down from the get-go and secure a comfortable win.

Expert Tip

Storm -11.5 @ $1.87 with Bet365

The Storm should be able to capitalise on the Knights’ injuries.

St. George Illawarra Dragons vs Sydney Roosters – Prediction & Best Bet

playup$2.55 $1.52
bet365$2.50$1.54
elitebet$2.54$1.53

Match Analysis

Following the Roosters’ surprise loss to the Tigers last weekend, both of these teams now find themselves just outside of the eight. But with the Broncos up in fifth just one game ahead of the Roosters and two of the Dragons, they are each still very much in the finals mix.

The Dragons were the latest victim of the Raiders’ extraordinary close-game-winning streak, going down by four points despite scoring the last two tries of the game. The Roosters made their own attempt at a comeback win the next day, but 12 points in the last six minutes was only enough to see them fall two points short of the Tigers.

Both of these teams will have players backing up from Origin; for the Dragons that is just one player, while for the Roosters it’s a quintet. But while the Chooks might have a few tired legs out there, they will also be substantially boosted by the return of those players, and with something much closer to their best team running out than they had last week, they should be able to pick up an important win and potentially jump straight back into the top eight.

Expert Tip

Roosters to win by 1-12 @ $3.10 with PlayUp

The Roosters are the better team, but the Dragons won’t be a pushover.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Prediction & Best Bet

Match Analysis

After a truly ridiculous three-week patch in which they got absolutely pumped every week, the Cowboys have been solid the last two weeks, finally getting back on the winners’ list (albeit against the Titans) before going close up against the Storm last weekend. Of course, that was a Storm team decimated by Origin, though the Cowboys, too, had a number of players out who will return this week.

But so too will the Bulldogs, who will be desperate to get back to their winning ways after consecutive defeats have seen them fall out of the top two. Each of those two defeats could easily have gone the other way; after a two-point loss to the Panthers, they jumped out to an 18-0 lead with 20 minutes to go against the Broncos last weekend only to somehow concede 22 points in an uncharacteristically poor period of play.

The Bulldogs remain firmly in the top four, but it’s top two that they’ll want and top two that they are still very capable of getting. Of course, it goes without saying that to jump back in, they need to be beating teams like the Cowboys, and despite the improved form of the home team over the past couple of weeks, the Bulldogs should be much too good.

Expert Tip

Bulldogs -7.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365

If the Cowboys are a little off, as they often are, the Bulldogs will take advantage.

Alternative Bets to Consider

NRL - James’ Sharp Shot

  • Dolphins over 32.5 total match points @ $5.00 with Bet365 – The league’s newest team has scored at least 44 points in four of their last five games and averaged a ridiculous 45.6 in that time, so reaching this number at odds of up to $5 with some betting sites looks very much in play.
  • Mark Nawaqanitawase anytime tryscorer @ $1.75 with Bet365 – A safer one here, but given that Nawaqanitawase has scored 11 tries in his last 8 games and only failed to score in one of those, this still looks like good value.
  • Eels under 16.5 total match points @ $1.88 with PlayUp – The Panthers’ strong form has unsurprisingly started at the defensive end; they’ve conceded 18 points or less in each of their last four games, their opponents averaging only 12 points in that time.
  • Josaiah Karapani anytime tryscorer @ $1.74 with Bet365 – Back to the well with Karapani, who served us well last week by scoring again – making it at least one try in all four of his games this season.

New Zealand Warriors vs Wests Tigers – Prediction & Best Bet

bet365$1.33$3.25
elitebet$1.37$3.15

Match Analysis

The Warriors remain reasonably comfortably inside the top four, but two consecutive losses prior to last week’s bye has them looking nervously over their shoulder at the chasing pack. They’ll be happy to be returning home to take on the Tigers, but while they’re 5-2 in New Zealand this season, those two losses have been in their last two games there.

The Tigers, meanwhile, earned a thrilling win that few could begrudge them last Sunday, holding off the Roosters by two points to finally break a six-game losing streak which included three consecutive defeats by four points. Despite all those losses, they remain just two games out of the eight, and a couple of upset wins could put them right back in the mix.

The Warriors will, of course, be without Luke Metcalf, who is out for the season with an ACL injury, while Jarome Luai’s return will boost the Tigers. The visitors aren’t without a hope in this one as the home side tries to adjust to life without their best player, but though they can give it a serious shake, the Warriors should just be able to sneak over the line.

Expert Tip

Wests Tigers +9.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365

I’m backing the Warriors to win, but the Tigers should at the very least keep this one close.

Parramatta Eels vs Penrith Panthers – Prediction & Best Bet

bet365$3.50$1.30
elitebet$3.60$1.29

Match Analysis

Both the Eels and the Panthers enjoyed the week off last week, with the two points handed to the Panthers seeing them jump up another spot on the ladder as a result. They are beginning to look ominous, with the four-game winning streak they went on prior to the bye beginning the last time these two teams met back on the 1st of June.

The Eels have picked up a rare win since then, beating the Titans a few weeks ago, but they were beaten pretty comfortably by the Dragons just before their week off. Incredibly they remain only two games out of the eight and with Mitch Moses set to return soon, a couple of wins in his absence could somehow put them in the finals mix.

But with a ruthless draw to come, it’s hard to imagine that happening, and this weekend will more likely be a reality check for the Eels. A line of just 10.5 on the betting apps looks too short for the four-time reigning Premiers; the Panthers are well and truly still in the Premiership mix and with the Warriors faltering, will be eyeing off that top four spot. Another win with a hefty boost to their points difference to boot would be a good way to keep them in the mix.

Expert Tip

Panthers -10.5 @ $1.90 with EliteBet

The Panthers are just starting to look dangerous, and are capable of really putting the Eels to the sword.

Alternative Bets to Consider

Gold Coast Titans vs Brisbane Broncos – Prediction & Best Bet

  • Gold Coast Titans
  • Brisbane Broncos

playup$3.70 $1.28
bet365$3.60$1.30
elitebet$3.60$1.29

Match Analysis

The Broncos are making their charge, and like the Panthers are eyeing off the Warriors in 4th spot like a predator stalking a struggling prey. After three straight wins at home, they looked once again set to fail miserably away from home, but an electric final 20 minutes saw them score their only 22 points of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. And with up to four Origin stars set to return, this game looks a little concerning for the Titans.

In fairness, the Wooden Spoon favourite were actually reasonably competitive in their three games prior to the bye, picking up a strong win over the Sea Eagles as well as a very tight loss to the Cowboys. They’ll also regain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui from Origin, but he alone won’t likely be enough to make them competitive with the Broncos.

Last time these two sides met was just a little over the month ago, and saw the Broncos kick off their current four-game winning streak with a 44-14 flogging in Brisbane. For the Titans’ sake, at least this one will be on the Gold Coast and we know the Broncos don’t travel that well, but they don’t exactly have to travel far to Cbus Super Stadium. Even on the Titans’ home turf, this should be an easy win for the Broncos.

Expert Tip

Broncos -11.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365

The Broncos are in some scintillating form and shouldn’t have any issues with the Titans.
