What a round of NRL that was. The first three games were decided by a grand total of 12 points and there were a couple of other thrillers thereafter, while the games that weren’t close were absolute blowouts. The end result were a few place-swaps among the teams fighting for finals spots, while the Panthers notably edged to within just a game-and-a-half of the top 4 after the Warriors inexplicably lost to the Titans. There are still six rounds to go, but with so little separating so many teams there will be no shortage of big games during that period, starting this weekend. Below, our go-to rugby league man at Australianbettingsites provides his NRL tips for the week that marks Round 22 of the season.

Match Analysis
It hasn’t exactly been the most inspiring of seasons for the Parramatta Eels, but they gave their fans something to cheer about with a brilliant upset win last weekend. Having previously lost three on the trot by big margins, another hefty defeat looked likely at Suncorp Stadium, but instead they held on for a hugely surprising 22-20 win – their sixth of the season.
It will be very hard to repeat the dose this week against the Storm – though we said that last week as well. The Premiership favourites haven’t exactly been at their best themselves of late, losing a fortnight ago at home to the Sea Eagles before last week escaping with the points against the Roosters by the skin of their teeth. The absences of Ryan Papenhuyzen and Cameron Munster certainly didn’t help though, and with those two likely back this weekend they will be a much more imposing outfit.
The Eels were impressive last weekend and the Storm haven’t been their dominant selves, but betting sites look like they might be overestimating the chances of the home team. The Storm have been Premiership favourites for much of the season for a reason, and shouldn’t have too many problems disposing of the Eels relatively comfortably.
Expert Tip
Storm -10.5 @ $1.95 with PlayUp
Last time these two teams met the Storm won by 38 points, and while they might not manage that again, 11 points is very much within their reach.
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Storm to win by 13+ @ $2.20 with PlayUp
- Storm/Storm half-time/full-time double @ $1.72 with PlayUp

Match Analysis
With the Broncos going down in shocking fashion to the Eels on Friday night, the Warriors had an excellent chance to extend their gap on their pursuers as they attempt to hold on to a spot in the top 4. Instead, after opening up a 10-0 lead within the first ten minutes against the league’s bottom team, they conceded 24 of the next 30 to go down 24-16 in perhaps their worst performance of the year, and one which could ultimately cost them the double chance.
The Dolphins had a week off, but prior to that they had been playing some absolutely scintillating footy as they attempt to make finals for the first time in their short history. Their 43-24 win over the Cowboys in their most recent game was the fifth time in seven games that they scored at least that number, a period during which they’ve gone 5-2 to move just inside the top 8.
A trip to New Zealand is not typically a particularly easy one, but given the Titans came away with the points just last week this seems like a very winnable game for the Dolphins. They are looking every bit a worthy finalist over the past few weeks, and with the Warriors’ wavering in their quest for a top 4 spot, the visitors’ offensive prowess might prove overwhelming for the home team.
Expert Tip
Dolphins to win @ $2.15 with Bet365
The Warriors are reeling from an horrendous loss while the Dolphins are playing as well as anyone.
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Dolphins +2.5 @ $1.87 with EliteBet
- Dolphins to win by 1-12 @ $3.40 with EliteBet

Match Analysis
Speaking of teams coming off horrendous defeats, though they didn’t know it yet the Broncos could have closed the gap between them and a top 4 spot to just a solitary game last weekend, and all they had to do was beat the Eels in Brisbane to do it. Instead, they put in one of their worst performances of the season to go down 22-20, and with the Panthers thumping the Tigers, insult was added to injury as they slipped down to 6th. And with just a game now separating them from 9th, they can ill-afford to put in another bad performance.
Coming off eight consecutive defeats the Rabbitohs aren’t exactly a menacing prospect at the minute, but for the fourth time in that span of games they went down by just a single score to a top 8 team last week. This time it was the Sharks who pipped them in a low-scoring game, though given the Bunnies scored in the 79th minute, the final margin of two points makes the game look tighter than it was.
Still, the Rabbitohs are no pushover despite their recent record, and if the Broncos put in the kind of performance they did last week they could be in for a similar result. With so much on the line, however, they will surely bounce back. The Broncos have everything to play for, and while they should get the chocolates the line does look pretty long given how competitive the Rabbitohs have been against some very good sides.
Expert Tip
Broncos to win by 1-12 @ $3.25 with Bet365
The Broncos will surely win, but the Bunnies have made a habit of keeping things close against good teams.
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Rabbitohs +15.5 @ $1.90 with PlayUp
- Under 49.5 total match points @ $1.89 with EliteBet
Gold Coast Titans vs Penrith Panthers – Tips & Best Bets

Match Analysis
There hasn’t been much to celebrate for the Titans this season, but last week they had cause for it after they headed to New Zealand and knocked off the 4th placed team on a very long road trip. The win came after four consecutive defeats, and with the Rabbitohs going down by 2 points to the Sharks, saw the Titans peel themselves off the bottom of the ladder for the first time in many months.
But they may very well be straight back to 17th by the end of this weekend given how the Panthers are playing of late. The four-time reigning Premiers have now won seven on the trot to move into 5th spot, and though they haven’t faced much in the way of opposition over the past few weeks, they have been winning in increasingly impressive fashion – last weekend knocking off the Tigers 36-2.
And despite the Titans’ impressive win last weekend, this presents as another relatively easy kill for Penrith. They’ve made a mockery of the Eels, Rabbitohs and then Tigers in the past three weeks, and with the Titans in a similar boat to those three teams, expect another big win for the Panthers this weekend. The line is set at 12.5 on the betting apps, but given the Panthers have won their last three by at least 20 points each, even that doesn’t look like enough.
Expert Tip
Panthers -12.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365
The Panthers are in scintillating form during an easy run of games, and can pick up another win big win.
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Under 46.5 total match points @ $1.89 with EliteBet
- Titans to score 10 points or less @ $3.50 with Bet365

- Storm to win by 13+ @ $2.20 with PlayUp - The Eels might have had a strong performance last weekend while the Storm have been less impressive than usual over the past fortnight, but there is a huge gap between these two teams and with a couple of key players back, the Storm should win this one easily.
- Dolphins to win @ $2.15 with Bet365 – Though this is, on paper, a home game for a top 4 side against a team fighting for a spot in the top eight, the Warriors are clearly vulnerable and were really poor last weekend. The Dolphins, in contrast, were playing some of the best footy in the league prior to their bye.
- Panthers -12.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365 – The Panthers are getting better as the weeks go by – who would have thought? They’re also benefitting from a pretty friendly draw of late, but they’ve made the most of it with three consecutive 20+ point wins. Up against the Titans, there is no reason to think that they won’t record another victory of that size.
- Sharks to win by 13+ @ $2.30 with Bet365 – The Cowboys are always an interesting team to bet on or against given their penchant for inconsistency, but sometimes that makes the longer odds bets worth looking at in their games. This is one such example. At their best the Cowboys could give this a shake, but if they put in one of their relatively regular down showings, the Sharks will take advantage.

St. George Illawarra Dragons vs Canberra Raiders – Tips & Best Bets
- St. George Illawarra Dragons

- Canberra Raiders

- Date: Saturday, 2nd of August
- Kick off: 5.30pm AEST
- Venue: WIN Stadium, Wollongong
- Broadcast info: Fox League
Match Analysis
If the Dragons wanted to play finals they realistically probably needed to beat the Cowboys last weekend, and they could hardly have gone closer without actually doing so. In an incredible game, they went down 12 points early only to tie things up at 12-apiece, before somehow entering half-time down 28-12. Unbelievably, 40 minutes later they were leading 32-12, then conceded two tries in the last ten minutes to lose 38-32 and likely relinquish their finals hopes.
No such problems for the Raiders, who continued on their merry way with a thumping defeat of the Knights. That was their 9th win on the trot and saw them maintain their position on top of the ladder, a game clear of the Bulldogs in 2nd and two clear of the Storm in 3rd.
Those two teams will be winning more than they lose in the run home so the Raiders can’t afford to slip up, and though they should win this game, the Dragons are no easybeats. Less than a month ago they only held off their much less fancied opposition by four points in Canberra, so down in Wollongong the Dragons can keep this close. But the Raiders know as well as anyone how to win close games, and one of Australia’s leading new betting sites in EliteBet is offering close to $3 for them to do just that.
Expert Tip
Raiders to win by 1-12 @ $2.90 with EliteBet
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Dragons/Raiders half-time/full-time double @ $7.25 with PlayUp
- Under 46.5 total match points @ $1.89 with EliteBet
Manly Sea Eagles vs Sydney Roosters – Tips & Best Bets
- Manly Sea Eagle

- Sydney Roosters

Match Analysis
The Sea Eagles have been synonymous with inconsistency this season, and haven’t they continued that trend over the past fortnight. They’d have taken a 1-1 record against the Storm and Bulldogs, but after winning at AAMI Park two weeks ago they will be far from satisfied with a woeful 42-4 thumping at the hands of the Bulldogs on Sunday. That loss saw them fall from 7th to 9th, joining the Roosters as one of two teams outside the top 8 still in with a legitimate finals chance.
The Roosters could very easily have been a game closer, too, after they went heartbreakingly close to also beating the Storm last weekend. But in a Thursday night thriller which saw no less than five lead changes, they found themselves on the wrong end of a four-point game when the final whistle blew – a loss which could prove costly as they attempt to squeeze into the finals.
This is a quintessential four-point game, with the loser both picking up two points of their own and preventing a team in a very similar position to them from earning two of their own. The Sea Eagles’ erratic form makes them so hard to predict, but after last weekend’s effort, this looks like something of a toss of a coin, making the Roosters look like value at well over even money.
Expert Tip
Roosters to win @ $2.30 with Bet365
Either team could win this, so as the comfortable outsider the Roosters look like the value bet.
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Roosters +3.5 @ $1.94 with Bet365
- Roosters 1-12 @ $3.50 with EliteBet
Wests Tigers vs Canterbury Bulldogs – Tips & Best Bets

Match Analysis
After a season which started with plenty of promise, things have gone a little awry for the Tigers. Still, already they’ve won more games than they have in any of the last three seasons, but they’re actually still not out of the woods when it comes to avoiding a fourth straight Wooden Spoon after their hapless 36-2 loss to the Panthers. And it doesn’t get a whole lot easier for them this week.
The Bulldogs have not set the world on fire over the past few weeks, but two tight wins over the Cowboys and Dragons kept them inside the top two, and with a little momentum behind them they were back to their best last weekend. They were dominant in the second half against the Sea Eagles, extending an eight-point half-time lead to 38 by the final whistle to make it three on the trot, and with a very winnable game coming up this weekend.
The Tigers have been competitive with some good teams this year, but not so much in recent times. Though they’ve picked up two wins in their last four games, the two matchups with top 8 teams in that time saw them lose by 20 points to the Warriors, and last week 34 to the Panthers. That doesn’t bode well for them in this one, and with the Bulldogs gearing up to some of their best form, the line doesn’t look big enough for the away team here.
Expert Tip
Bulldogs -11.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Bulldogs/Bulldogs half-time/full-time double @ $1.60 with PlayUp
- Bulldogs to win by 7+ @ $1.60 with PlayUp
Cronulla Sharks vs North Queensland Cowboys – Tips & Best Bets
- Cronulla Sharks

- North Queensland Cowboys

- Date: Sunday, 3rd of August
- Kick off: 4.05pm AEST
- Venue: Sharks Stadium, Sydney
- Broadcast info: Channel Nine, 9Now, Fox League
Match Analysis
Given how tight things are in the middle parts of the ladder, the Sharks could ill-afford to lose last week’s game against the Rabbitohs, and though it was a little closer than they would have liked, they managed to hold on for a two-point win to make it three on the trot. They moved into 7th place as a result, and now back on their home turf – where they are 7-2 on the season – they are well-placed to make it four in a row and further solidify their finals case.
The Cowboys secured a win of their own to break a three-game losing streak in a see-sawing affair against the Dragons, and jumped all the way up to 11th in the process. But they remain closer to bottom spot than they do to 8th, and it would take a remarkable few weeks for them to play finals – particularly given that they have the worst points difference in the league.
The ever-erratic Cowboys have been reasonably competitive for the most part over the past month, having lost close games to the Storm and Bulldogs to go with last week’s win, so the Sharks shouldn’t be expecting them to simply roll over and give them the points. But the Sharks do seem to grow an extra leg in Cronulla, while the Cowboys don’t exactly travel well – they’ve lost three of their last four away by an average of over 25 points. The Sharks probably won’t beat them by that margin, but they should be too good in a pivotal game for their finals prospects.
Expert Tip
Sharks -7.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365
The Sharks are a much better team than the Cowboys, particularly at home.
Alternative Bets to Consider
- Sharks to win by 13+ @ $2.30 with Bet365
- Sharks/Sharks half-time/full-time double @ $1.85 with PlayUp
