NRL 2025 - Round 24

NRL 2025 Round 24

Round 23 was a weekend for flexing muscles, with the Panthers doing the inevitable and jumping into the top four courtesy of a crushing win, and each of the other three teams that they join also recording impressive victories. The Raiders, Storm, Bulldogs and Panthers are now clearly the quartet from which most expect the Premier to emerge, though there is still plenty of jostling for spots to be done both among that group, and in the positions below over the coming weeks. Round 24 will play host to a number of pivotal games, none more so than the first of them which will see the Storm take on the Panthers, and below, you can check out the NRL tips for the week from our rugby league expert at Australianbettingsites for every game across the weekend.

Match Analysis

Just two teams have won the Premiership this decade and that may very well remain the case after this year’s Grand Final, and on Thursday night they’ll kick off Round 24 with what looms as one of the games of the season to date. The Panthers have now won nine games on the trot following last weekend’s 48-12 thumping of the Knights, and with the Warriors losing, the four-time reigning Premiers jumped into the top four for the first time all year.

The Storm are one of the three teams they join there, having spent much of the season inside the top three. They’re locked in a three-way battle for an all-important top two spot in which this fortnight was always going to be pivotal; they ticked the first box emphatically last week with a 22-2 win over the Broncos, but this will be an even sterner test.

This will be a finals-like game both in intensity and quality, and may very well be a preview of this year’s Grand Final. Both teams are capable of scoring heavily, but equally they are as defensively sound as any in the league and with so much on the line, both defences will likely prove difficult to penetrate. It would be no surprise to see a low-scoring affair and likely a close one, but on their home turf the Panthers might just be able to sneak over the line to make it ten wins in a row.

Expert Tip

Panthers to win by 1-12 points @ $3.10 with PlayUp

It’s hard to see either team winning by much, and in a game that’s just about a flip of the coin I’m just erring on the side of the home team.

Match Analysis

Despite sitting inside it for a large portion of the year, the Warriors are probably not a top four quality team, and it showed last weekend. They were no match for the Bulldogs and the 32-14 final score probably flattered them, and that third consecutive loss saw them fall outside the top four. Breaking back in might be beyond them, but they also need to start winning soon because they’re now just two games inside the top eight.

The Dragons, meanwhile, kept their slim finals hopes alive with an impressive win over the Sharks, beating them 22-14 a week after knocking off the Raiders. Still two games from 8th, they’re clearly up against it to finish in the top eight, but they’re playing some good footy and at least keeping themselves in the hunt.

This is a really intriguing game. The Warriors have been the better team all year, but the Dragons are clearly in superior form and are more than capable of giving this a good run. Typically a lot harder to beat at home, New Zealand has not been the happy hunting ground it was earlier in the year for the Warriors of late, and the Dragons look like good value with the betting apps to send them to their third consecutive loss at Go Media Stadium.

Expert Tip

Dragons to win @ $2.45 with PlayUp

Put simply, the Dragons are in really good form, and the Warriors are not.

Match Analysis

Friday night’s second game is another enthralling one, with the Roosters looking to force their way into the top eight and the Bulldogs trying to do the same with the top two. The Chooks have been brilliant the last two weeks, backing up a 20-4 win over the Sea Eagles with perhaps their best performance of the year when they beat the Dolphins 64-12 last Saturday, moving level with them on points and outside of the eight on points difference alone.

The Bulldogs put in a pretty solid showing themselves, knocking off the Warriors 32-14 to make it four wins in their last five games and keep touch with the Raiders and Storm in the race for top two spots. Top four is virtually a lock for the Bulldogs, but the home final that comes with a top two finish is something they’ll be very eager to attain and if they’re to get there, they can’t afford many more losses.

The Roosters have played some of their best footy of the season over the past fortnight, and have a great chance to prove their worth as not just a finals side, but a dangerous one against one of the best teams in the comp. But the Bulldogs, after a bit of a mid-season lull, have returned to some of their best form in recent weeks. Expect a tight tussle between two in-form sides, but the Bulldogs might just prove too good.

Expert Tip

Bulldogs to win by 1-12 points @ $3.10 with Bet365

Expect a good game, but the Bulldogs are back to something nearing their best and will be hard to beat.

Match Analysis

The Sharks had an opportunity to put themselves firmly in the hunt for a top four spot last weekend, but their loss to the Dragons not only put that dream almost out of each, it’s also jeopardised their spot in the eight. They’re just one game ahead of the Roosters in 9th and could very possibly fall out of the top eight with a loss this weekend – so what better time to play the Titans at home.

In fairness, the Titans have actually been quite good of late. Not that they’ve been winning much – their 24-16 defeat of the Warriors three weeks ago is the only game they’ve won in their last seven – but their last three losses have come by a combined total of just seven points.

The Sharks can ill-afford to expect to waltz over the Titans, who have been competitive against better teams in recent weeks. But they desperately need to win, and if they don’t, probably deserve to fall out of the eight. With so much on the line, however, they should be able to bounce back from last week’s effort and get the chocolates.

Expert Tip

Sharks to win by 1-12 points @ $3.40 with PlayUp

The Sharks should win, but the Titans have been really competitive of late.

Alternative Bets to Consider

NRL - James’ Sharp Shot

  • Roosters vs Bulldogs over 41.5 total match points @ $1.87 with EliteBet – While the Bulldogs are a low-scoring team, the Roosters are far from it and the line set by betting sites looks way too low for a game including them. Just two of the Chooks’ last 14 games have gone under this number, and more often than not they’ve gone past it comfortably.
  • Dragons to win @ $2.45 with PlayUp – This is a bit of a strange old game and one which a few weeks ago the Warriors would have been much heavier favourites. But the reality is, the Warriors are playing poorly even at home while the Dragons have found some form, and look like value as the underdog in New Zealand.
  • Tigers vs Sea Eagles under 48.5 total match points @ $1.91 with Bet365 – This is a relatively high points line, and it’s not entirely clear why. Seven of the last eight Tigers games have gone under it, while the case is even more compelling for the Sea Eagles, for whom 15 consecutive games have failed to pass this number harking back to April.

Match Analysis

The Broncos have had an erratic few weeks. After inexplicably losing to the Eels, they bounced back with a 60-14 defeat of the Rabbitohs, only to put in a limp performance in a 22-2 loss to the Storm last week. That defeat probably put a line through their top four hopes, and if they lose this weekend to a Dolphins team just one game behind them, their top eight spot will be very much in jeopardy too.

By and large the Dolphins have been playing well, too, but last weekend was a notable exception. After winning five of their previous seven games, they might as well have not shown up for a huge clash with the Roosters, conceding 64 points en route to a 52-point defeat. They still sit inside the eight courtesy of their strong points difference, but a loss here could see that change.

This is a massive game for both sides, and one which has significant implications both for them and for the teams around them. Each of them has displayed a huge gap between their ceiling and their floor of late, and a wide spectrum of potential results could happen here as a result. This is arguably the biggest clash between these two budding rivals since the Dolphins entered the league in 2023, but they might fall a little short against their more established opposition.

Expert Tip

Broncos -3.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365

The Broncos have been erratic of late, but are generally good at Suncorp Stadium.

Match Analysis

This is not exactly a clash of the titans, though it does present a very rare opportunity for both these teams to earn a second consecutive victory after they both won tight games last weekend. The Bunnies leapfrogged the Titans by beating them 20-18, with an extra penalty goal ultimately the only difference between the two bottom-placed teams on the ladder.

The Eels, meanwhile, continued a decent run of form with a second tight win in three weeks. After beating the Broncos by two points three weeks ago and then putting up a good fight against the Storm, they broke a deadlock with a 74th minute field goal to Mitch Moses and held on to win by a point, taking their record to 7-13.

There isn’t much on the line for either of these teams and it certainly won’t be a game too many are staying home on Saturday night to watch, but someone has to win it. The Eels have been particularly competitive in recent weeks – something which it’s no surprise has coincided with the return of Moses – and they can keep that going with a third win in four weeks.

Eels -3.5 @ $1.91 with Bet365

Match Analysis

The Tigers enjoyed a week off last round, well-deserved after a 14-point defeat of the Bulldogs, and though finals are almost certainly beyond them, that result has kept them at least mathematically in the mix. It’s still probably a bridge too far given their points difference, but with both the Dolphins and Roosters facing top four teams, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the Tigers end the round just a game outside the eight.

The Sea Eagles are a game ahead of the Tigers, and with a win could put themselves right on the edge of finals qualification – though they haven’t been playing like a team worthy of September action of late. Last Friday night’s loss to the Raiders was their third by at least 16 points in a row, a complete capitulation after a period of good form which put them right in the finals mix.

A couple of weeks ago this would have looked like a comfortable win for the Sea Eagles in their quest for a top eight spot, but given their form it’s hard to tip them with much confidence against anyone at the moment. The Tigers were good in their last game before the bye, and fresh off a week off they can cause an upset this Sunday, with new betting site EliteBet offering particularly good odds for that result.

Expert Tip

Tigers to win @ $2.48 with EliteBet

The Sea Eagles have really been struggling of late, and at home the Tigers can do a number on them.

Match Analysis

The seasons of both of these teams is winding to a relatively ignominious end, with each of them set to miss the finals and not playing like they’re going to win many more games this year. The Cowboys have lost five of their last six games, last weekend going down to the Eels, though they do at least return to Townsville this weekend, where they have been a lot more competitive.

The Knights are coming off a fifth consecutive loss, and while a couple of those early in that streak were competitive, the same cannot be said for their last couple of performances. After going down by 26 points to the Raiders a fortnight ago, they lost 48-12 to the rampant Panthers last weekend, slipping to 15th place in the process.

This is a huge round in the NRL, but it ends with a whimper much more than a bang. Few neutrals will be all that interested in this game and from a betting standpoint, it’s hard to back either team with much confidence. But the Cowboys, for all of their poor recent form, have been serviceable at home, winning their last game there and losing the other two competitively to the Bulldogs and Storm. That home ground advantage may prove the difference.

Expert Tip

Cowboys -6.5 @ $1.90 with PlayUp

The Cowboys are no world beaters, but at home can dispose of the Knights.
