NRL Least Wins Wooden Spoon 2025

While most of the NRL public’s collective interest is directed at teams in the Premiership or finals mix, a less-publicised battle goes on every year at the other end of the table – a battle that nobody really wants to be involved in. The Wooden Spoon betting market involves punters counting on their knowledge of who really isn’t good, rather than who is, a domain in which the Wests Tigers have excelled in recent years by finishing with the least wins in three consecutive years. But the Tigers have finally removed themselves from that position this season, and with just a couple of weeks remaining in the season it is a two-horse race for the unwanted title of the NRL’s bottom team.

Latest Odds: NRL Least Wins Market

Below are the latest odds in the NRL Wooden Spoon betting market. Just two teams remain in the mix for bottom spot, though there are some fairly substantial differences in the odds for each of them across different betting sites.

A quick note: there is a subtle difference in the way some betting sites frame this market. While PlayUp and EliteBet have it listed as ‘Least Wins’, Bet365 goes for ‘Most Losses’, which could theoretically have a different result if draws are involved, though the vast majority of the time it won’t make a difference.

Gold Coast Titans

NRL Gold Coast Titans

Two wins in their first three matches of the season gave Titans fans some hope that they could improve on the eight wins that they managed last year, but that start has proven to be nothing more than a false dawn. Losses have been the norm and often heavy, with wins only very sporadically giving them something to cheer about.

Following those back-to-back wins in Rounds 3 and 4, the Titans haven’t won two games in a row all year. In fact, they haven’t even won two games within the course of a month. Every win has been followed by at least three losses, which has seen them spend much of the season on the bottom of the ladder after dropping there for the first time in Round 11.

In a competitive year in the NRL, the Titans are far from the worst team in league history. They have on numerous occasions been competitive against good teams and included among their more recent victories are defeats over the Warriors and the Sea Eagles. But with two games left in the season, they remain a game in arrears of the Knights and needing another victory to scrape themselves out of last spot.

They’re not without a chance, with those two games coming against the Dolphins and the Wests Tigers, both games they’re capable of being competitive in – particularly the second. If they do snatch one and the Knights lose both, they will more than likely move up a spot – though with those two teams’ points differences fairly close, it’s not guaranteed. But while that’s certainly not out of the realms of possibility, it’s more unlikely than not given the Knights can still pick up a win to rule it out, and though they’re at pretty short odds, the Titans do look like the best bet to win the 2025 Wooden Spoon.

Newcastle Knights

NRL Newcastle Knights

Like the Titans, the Knights started their season with promise, winning their first two games of the year. Unfortunately, that was followed by five consecutive losses, though they did arrest that slide through the middle stages of the year, winning four of eight games between Rounds 9 and 16 to keep their record respectable and even give themselves an outside chance of playing finals.

Unfortunately, injuries came knocking, and this team simply does not have the capacity to deal with their best players being out for a significant period of time. The most important of those, of course, has been Kalyn Ponga, whose season ended in Round 17 when he suffered a foot injury that ruled him out until 2026.

It’s no surprise that since then, the Knights have struggled mightily. They lost that game in competitive fashion by just four points to the Raiders, but it kickstarted a run of what is now seven consecutive losses – and losses which have been getting uglier by the week.

Two months ago the Knights were well clear of bottom spot, but those seven straight losses have put them right in the mix. If they’d been competitive losses, they’d still be a game and points difference clear of the Titans and very unlikely to finish bottom, but the last four losses in that run came, incredibly, by at least 26 points each and an average of nearly 33. That’s seen their points difference take a beating, and means if they don’t win either of their last two games the Titans could catch them with a win.

The Knights have a tough game against the Sharks in Round 26 which will probably result in another drubbing, but after that they take on the Eels. Given their own dreadful recent form and the solid performances of the Eels that is likely another loss, but in a final round dead rubber anything could happen.

Bottom spot is very feasible for the Knights two weeks out from season’s end, particularly with them unlikely to win another game. But a win in that Round 27 clash isn’t impossible, and even if they don’t manage one, the Titans need to snatch a win to catch them. As far as value goes, the Titans still look like the better bet.

Predictions: Who Will Finish Last?

Just four games remain to decide this market; the Titans vs the Dolphins and then Tigers, and the Knights vs the Sharks and then Eels. The Titans are very capable of winning one of their remaining two, particularly their second, but they’ve not won often for some time now and a victory getting them off bottom spot is still contingent on the Knights losing both of their games. Either outcome is possible, but the Titans are in the unwanted box seat to finish last, and particularly with Bet365 still look like decent value to win the NRL Wooden Spoon in 2025.

Expert Tips for Wooden Spoon Betting

Below are some Wooden Spoon betting tips to keep in mind when punting on this market.

  • Factor in the state of the league: This year is a great example of the idea that not all Wooden Spooners are made equal. While the Tigers finished last with four wins in 2022 and 2023, this season last spot could easily have double that, so while some teams might not look bad enough to finish last, they still could.
  • Injury list: As in all sports, injuries play a key role, and if a team loses a couple of big players and finals fall out of the picture, they can easily spiral.
  • ‘Least Wins’ vs ‘Most Losses’: I mentioned this earlier, but some bookies frame this market differently. Least wins and most losses are not exactly the same thing and can have a different result if draws are involved, though this is rare.
