Key Details About the Blue Diamond Stakes

The Blue Diamond Stakes is one of the most popular Group One races during Melbourne’s Autumn Racing Carnival, and it is known as one of the richest 2YO races. With $2 million on the line, we see many of the best 2YOs head to Caulfield Racecourse for the 1,200m event.

The race was first contested back in 1971, and was won by a racehorse named Tolerance. Since then, the Blue Diamond Stakes has only continued to grow in status and popularity. There are a handful of Group One races held exclusively for 2YOs throughout the year, and only the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Golden Slipper are sprint events.

Along with the Blue Diamond Stakes, races like the Futurity Stakes and the Oakleigh Plate are also run on the same day at the same track. On this day, it is the unofficial start of the Autumn Racing Carnival, especially at Caulfield Racecourse.

In 2003, Roedean won the Blue Diamond Stakes but was then stripped of the title after returning a positive swab. This resulted in the runner-up, Kusi, being upgraded to the winner. The Blue Diamond Stakes has always been contested at Caulfield Racecourse; however, it was run at Flemington Racecourse in 1996 due to the reconstruction of Caulfield.

Blue Diamond Stakes Tips & Best Bets

If you’re searching for free Blue Diamond Stakes tips, you have come to the right place. We offer horse racing tips for some of the biggest races on the calendar. The Australianbettingsites.net.au team covers races like Golden Slipper tips, Melbourne Cup tips, The Everest tips and more.

We don’t stop there, though; we also provide daily horse racing tips. So, make sure you check back with us regularly, as there is always something happening! For our daily tips, we provide three selections that are our most confident plays of the day, and we include odds from multiple betting sites, so you can find the best price.

If you want to ensure you have the most enjoyable betting experience, we have some tips and tricks for you:

  • Overbetting - Overbetting is a fairly serious issue, and it’s easy to do, especially if you get caught up in the moment. This is why it is a good idea to have a plan before you start betting for the day, and stick with it. If you have $100 for the day, as an example, you shouldn’t place your first bet of the day with a $75 stake amount.
  • Jockey/ Horse Combination - There are many different statistics for you to look into when trying to find a winning bet. However, one that can sometimes get overlooked is the jockey/ horse combination. You should see if the jockey has ridden the horse in the past and see how successful the relationship has been.
  • Recent Form - Checking out the recent form is an obvious step to help you find a winning bet and make your betting experience more positive. However, you shouldn’t take results at face value. For example, a runner might have finished middle of the pack, but they were held up at a critical stage and were storming home.
  • Multiple Promotions - Betting sites bonuses can help you get more bang for your buck. Different bookies usually offer slightly different promotions, so it can help your dollar stretch even further if you can take advantage of different bonuses from multiple bookies.

Best Odds for the Blue Diamond Stakes

You may feel comfortable betting with the same bookie day in and day out, but if you don’t shop around, you could be missing out on extra value. Shopping around is the easiest way to get more bang for your buck, as different bookies can sometimes offer different odds for the same market/ runner.

Slightly better odds here and there can really add up, especially if you’re a regular bettor or like to bet on roughies, where the difference in odds between bookies can be a lot larger. Also, having a look around isn’t actually that time-consuming, especially once you have the processes down pat.

You can make the process as quick as possible by using an odds comparison tool. We believe an odds comparison tool is a great place to start, as it offers the odds across many different bookies, all in one place. However, the tool might not include the odds from all your favourite bookies, and they usually include fixed win/ place odds.

Combined with an odds comparison tool, a little bit of manual work may be required. To speed up the manual work and find the best odds for the Blue Diamond Stakes, you can start by checking the betting sites that have a reputation for offering highly competitive horse racing odds, like Bet365, Unibet and PlayUp, for example.

Latest Blue Diamond Stakes Results

It was a trio of roughies that finished in the top three in the 2025 Blue Diamond Stakes. Devil Night, who was ridden by Michael Dee, finished first in the race, after jumping with odds of $16. Tentyris, who jumped from barrier four, wasn’t too far behind in second place, finishing just 0.1L off the pace after going around with odds of $21.

A $17 chance, Tycoon Star, was able to overcome the second-widest barrier of them all to finish in third place, 1.35L off Devil Night. Field Of Play was the pre-race favourite, paying $4.00 to win the Blue Diamond Stakes at the jump, and the gelding ended up finishing in sixth position, 3.5L off the leader.
