Saturday Horse Racing Tips – Randwick 09/08/2025

Read through Matt's Horse racing tips and best bets for Saturday's racing at Randwick. For my best bet of the day, it has to be Piggyback in Race 6 at Randwick. Also, for my cheeky value play, I've got my eye locked on Thalassophile in Race 9 at Randwick. The track surface will wet under foot on Saturday, try and place bets on horses that like it wet. Top Tip (Best Bet): Piggyback

Claimed third place last start, running on well to the line. Solid effort on heavy ground in the past, expect a competitive run again. Competitive on heavy tracks, placing in 100% of 4 starts, with 2 wins.

Biggest Threat (Danger): The Irish

An impressive last-start victory signals this runner is in top form. On 26/07/2025, The Irish lined up at Doomben, finishing 1st over 2200m. Few handle heavy tracks better than this horse, which has shown time and time again it can handle the wet conditions at Randwick.

Value Play: Cormac T

Finished outside the top four, but continuing to develop as a competitor. Cormac T stepped out at Rosehill on 19/07/2025, finishing 6th over 2400m. While its heavy track form isn’t outstanding, it’s shown the ability to handle these conditions when needed. 2400m distance suits - right in the mix.

Best Bet - Race 8: Robusto

Top Tip (Best Bet): Robusto

Proved too strong in the previous race. Last time out, Robusto competed over 1500m, placing 1st at Rosehill. At this venue, has a career record of 3-0-0, including 3 victories.

Biggest Threat (Danger): General Salute

Last run resulted in a commendable third, sticking on well. General Salute ran at Eagle Farm on 28/06/2025, finishing 3rd in a 1200m event. Still looking for its first win at the Randwick track.

Value Play: Romeo's Choice

Was too good in its previous race, claiming a solid win. Last start, Romeo's Choice finished in the placings over 1100m at Rosehill on 19/07/2025. At Randwick, has managed a win here and can improve on that record this Saturday. Has enough experience on heavy tracks to make a solid run on Saturday, but will need to step up. Solid on heavy tracks, winning 2 times from 4 runs.

Best Bet - Race 9: Saltcoats

Top Tip (Best Bet): Saltcoats

Held on for third in the previous race, displaying solid consistency. Saltcoats competed at Rosehill over 1500m, finishing 3rd. With reasonable form on heavy tracks, this horse has enough ability to make an impact at Randwick. This trip of 1800m suits perfectly, proven performer time and time again. Track stats: 2-0-0, with a win rate of 66.7% and place rate of 66.7%.

Biggest Threat (Danger): Estadio Mestalla

Claimed third place last start, running on well to the line. Last outing, Estadio Mestalla took on a 1500m race at Rosehill and finished 3rd.

Value Play: Thalassophile

Finished outside the top four in her last race but had moments that hinted at better performances ahead. Thalassophile raced recently, placing 6th in a 2100m event at Eagle Farm. Not the strongest Randwick track form but has won here before.

Joshua Parr has a good mix of favourites and roughies to watch on Saturday. Robusto in Race 8 should offer nice value.

On Saturday, this is my quaddie bet of the day to get around, should offer plenty of fun while watching the races live.
