Analysis:

Despite a lot of talk around Ka Ying Rising, I really do like the look of Jimmysstar, and he presents so much more value as well. The two-time Group One winner looks like he has been set up for this one, and I’ve been watching his progress as of late. His run last time out in the Group Two Premiere Stakes only cemented my feelings towards the gelding.

He finished second, just 0.62L off Briasa, and he jumped wide in that one as well. Briasa also lines up in The Everest, currently with odds of $15. Hopefully, Jimmysstar and Ethan Brown will learn from that run and settle in a little closer, which will give the pair a much better chance of running down the entire field. Great each-way value.

Analysis:

A lot of focus has been on the $1.80 favourite, Ka Ying Rising. Some think he’s got this in the bag, while others aren’t even including him in their set of tips. I think I’m somewhere in the middle. The gelding has to be respected, especially considering he has a 14:12-2-0 record with Zac Purton on board.

However, there are a few key unknowns, and at the price, I’m not willing to put him down as my best bet. So, he slots in as my next best for The Everest. He is the Hong Kong champion, Purton comes across with him, and the top-rated horse in the world. He’ll have his work cut out for him racing in Australia for the first time, but he has a whole lot of class.

Analysis:

Joliestar is on the second line of betting and still presents decent each-way value in The Everest. She’s another that I’ve had my eye on for a while, and the runner/ jockey combo has produced an enviable record of 6:4-1-0. She was excellent last time out and loves this track/trip as well.

She’s on the fresher side of life, especially compared to some of the others in this one, but I think that works in her favour. The mare knows how to win a Group One, and she has shown her grit time and time again, so you can never really count her out. Everything looks set up for this one, so I would be surprised if she doesn’t have a great race today.
