In this BM70, I’m sticking with the narrow $3.30 favourite, Southby. It’s a field of just six for this one, and the 4YO won here at Ballarat Synthetic last time out, over 2,200m, also in a BM70. Draws barrier one, and he has been going through the gear nicely in this prep so far, winning twice.

The market has pinpointed two runners for this one, and my money’s on Your Magic over Jackpot Star, who is currently the favourite. The gelding was able to break his maiden last time out after finishing second two runs back. He should be fitter for those runs under his belt, and he should settle midfield, waiting for the right time to strike.

There are a few live chances in this one, but I have to side with Pontmeirion, who is on the seven-day backup. Gets the weight claim with apprentice jockey Lucinda Boyd on board. The 7YO has been at Ballarat Synthetic for his entire prep (four runs), and this includes back-to-back second places in his last two runs, both by less than a length.
