The Rosebud is just a field of six this year, and I’m going with the favourite, Pallaton, but this is still a fairly open field with just one runner listed with double-digit odds. We haven’t seen the colt since March, but he has won back-to-back trials in July and then again in early August. Gets the gun draw as well.

I found myself a roughie that I think could run a good race here at Doomben, with Naval Trader paying $3.70 for the place here, in a field of nine. Hasn’t done a lot recently, but he did finish second at this track by just 0.17L back in February. He is a winner over this track and trip, and seems to do a lot of his best work first-up.

It’s the Group Two PB Lawrence Stakes, and all eyes will be on Private Eye, who is also my best bet for the race. He has a good first-up record (11:4-1-2), and usually eats up the 1,400m when it’s on offer. Jockey Nash Rawiller makes the trip to Melbourne for this ride. There’s a lot to like and potentially a massive Spring Racing Carnival on the cards.
