I have to stick with the favourite here. The mare looks to be in great touch, and I can’t see any of these beating her today. Draws barrier six, which isn’t the best for her race style, I think, but she’s a classy runner, and that shouldn’t be enough to stop her. Great trials as of late with Tom Sherry onboard, and he sticks with the 4YO here as well.

Moving across to Ballarat now, and I like the look of Rosa Aotearoa in Race 7. The gelding is currently on the second line of betting with Altermatum holding favouritism at even-money. He has been going through the gear nicely so far this prep, with a second placing by just 0.06L two runs back, and a victory last time out at Mornington over the same trip.

Back to Newcastle now, and I’ll be sticking with the favourite Yabby Pump. Despite being the favourite, the gelding still presents some value, with odds around the $3.60 mark. He does have to lug around the top weight, but apprentice jockey William Stanley makes it 2kg lighter. Finished second last time out, and this looks like an easier race; he should clean up here.
