Randwick, Race 5 - 1. Front Page

It’s the $2 million The Kosciuszko, and I’m siding with Front Page, who will have to lug around the equal top weight. We haven’t seen the old boy since June, when he finished near the rear of the field in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap. He has already tasted victory in this race, winning the 2023 edition, and in 2024, he finished second.

With form like that in a big race, you can never discount him, and I’ll be playing it safe, taking him to place in this multi with odds of $2.15 with PlayUp. His team knows what it takes to get him primed for this one, and his racing style suits this type of race. He’ll probably lead from the front. Can he lead from post to post? Only time will tell.

Caulfield, Race 6 - 3. Arabian Summer

Heading to Caulfield now, and I’m side-stepping the favourite to opt for Arabian Summer instead. In a field of just nine, I think 4YO may be able to shake things up. Keeping things safe once again for this multi, and taking her to place, which is currently paying $1.65 with Bet Right, which still presents value as she is a genuine winning chance.

Her third placing in the Group One Moir Stakes recently makes me believe we have somewhat of a false favourite in this one. She should have arguably finished higher up last time out, but was held up. After drawing wide in this one, she’ll hopefully be able to stay out of trouble in the early stages and give them all a sight down the finishing straight.

Caulfield, Race 7 - 1. Apocalyptic

In the Group One Thousand Guineas, there’s a lot to like about the current favourite, Apocalyptic, who is currently paying $2.05 with PlayUp. At set weights, she looks very hard to beat, especially when you consider she is on a three-race winning streak, which includes a Group One win in the Flight Stakes last time out.

She is still up against her own sex, which is what she got in the Flight Stakes, and this is also across 1,600m. The tempo might be a little more challenging here for her, but she’s got the form and the class to take care of this field. Mark Zahra takes over for Tommy Berry, and I’m excited to see what she can do from barrier four.
