Quick Analysis:

It’s a pretty open field in this one, and I’m going against the favourite. The Boss Man has been at the barrier trials a bit, and he will be all the better for that experience. In his debut run, he finished third, and that form has held up with the runner-up in that one winning their next start. Regular jockey, Fred Kersley, is in the saddle again.

Quick Analysis:

I think Lucky Compass is worth something on the place bet. Even though he has drawn wide, he does a lot of his best work first-up. Last time he was on this track, he was a dominant winner. Does need a little bit of luck, but at $3.80 just for the place, that is pretty good value in my eyes.

Quick Analysis:

With three placings in a row at Canberra, Cold Mist has been there or thereabouts as of late. Draws better in this one, and I don’t really think this is a tougher race than last time out, so he should have every chance to notch up his first win in his seventh career attempt.

Stats and Insights

  • Vino Corona won at Ballarat Synthetic over 1500m last year. She has been lightly raced since and improves second-up; well suited back in trip and venue. She runs in Race 7 today.
  • Brave Carol improved on synthetic when third over 1100m last start. She drops back to 1000m and is trained by Andrew Noblet, who has a good record at Ballarat Synthetic. Watch out for her in Race 2.
  • Souk was narrowly beaten last start when nabbed on the line. He is racing consistently and looks overdue for a win; strong chance to kick off the day in Race 1 at Canberra.
